Eastern Washington, with its dry climate and sun-soaked rolling fields, is ideal for growing wine grapes, and, apparently, marijuana. Subsidizes for you to Eat.

In 2009, the federal government spent $12.3 billion in payments to America's farmers. The number was cause for celebration, and not only among the tractor and overall industries. $12.3 billion was nearly the lowest payment in the past decade, as high food prices surpassed the threshold for subsidies.Link

US Jobs: How many ways to say ugly?......

There are bad economic reports. Then there are stunningly bad economic reports. Unfortunately we got the latter today. America's $3.7 trillion wars.

When President Obama announced that he would withdraw 33,000 troops from Afghanistan by mid-2012, he cited the cost of the war as a factor in his decision. Rightly so: By the time the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan end, it's estimated they will have cost the U.S. trillions and trillions of dollars, according to "Costs of War," a research project conducted by Brown University. That's enough to cover California's total spending — estimated at $86 billion this year — for at least the next four decades. How does that money break down, and where is it going?.Link
