Lobbyists: meetings off-site to hide them.

Caught between their boss’ anti-lobbyist rhetoric and the reality of governing, President Barack Obama’s aides often steer meetings with lobbyists to a complex just off the White House grounds — and several of the lobbyists involved say they believe the choice of venue is no accident.Link

Bid to end Afghan war..........GOP roadblock.

(02-22) 04:00 PST Washington - -- Amid a battle in the House over how to cut billions in spending, liberal Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland joined conservative Republicans Ron Paul of Texas and Walter Jones of North Carolina last week on a bill that could save more than $100 billion a year by ending the war in Afghanistan.Link

Ron Paul's coffers.

The revolution is alive and well. Ron Paul raised more than $700,000 for his PAC in 24 hours during a President's Day money bomb. Paul pioneered the online fundraising technique during his 2008 presidential run, and yesterday's impressive haul shows he still has a significant base of support. LibertyPAC promoted the money bomb with a web video posted on Paul's Facebook page which leads supporters to believe the Texas congressman is leaning toward another run for president. "If we show him enough support, he will announce his official candidacy for 2012," reads the text that appears halfway through the two-minute video.Link

A Santorum is gross.........

Former GOP Sen. Rick Santorum (PA) has a problem: he's eying a run for president, but his name recognition is weak. And Google, as it turns out, isn't really helping his brand image. Enter "Rick Santorum" into a Google search and you should get over half a million results. But two out of the top four are references to a sexual neologism coined as a tribute to Santorum's past denunciations of homosexuality. The neologism? Anal sex.Link

Ron Paul Runs Away With CPAC Straw Poll.

As expected, Rep. Ron Paul (R., Texas) won the annual straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, an early, though unscientific, indicator of conservative favor as the 2012 presidential campaign cycle kicks into gear. Paul, with a 30 percent plurality, topped numerous high-profile White House contenders. He finished seven points ahead of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who placed second. All other candidates finished with less than ten percent of the vote: former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson snagged six percent, as did Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich won five percent.Link

For Bernanke, no escaping politics now.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For a Federal Reserve chairman who is worried about politics interfering with monetary policy, Ben Bernanke is taking on some awfully heated political topics. Echoing comments from White House and Treasury officials, Bernanke said last week that if Congress failed to raise the government's borrowing limit, it could force the United States into a "catastrophic" default. He urged lawmakers not to use the debt ceiling as a "bargaining chip" in debates over taxes and spending -- which some Republicans have threatened to do. The Treasury Department has said it may breach the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling as early as April 5 unless it is raised.Link
