Obama admin. defends Bush wiretapping.
IDG News Service - Lawyers from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Electronic Frontier Foundation squared off in a San Francisco courtroom Wednesday over a warrantless wiretapping program instituted by the Bush administration. The EFF sued the government and officials who implemented the secret program in September in an effort to get the government to stop the practice of recording communications involving U.S. citizens without a federal warrant. The EFF argues that this warrantless wiretapping is illegal, but government lawyers say the lawsuit should be thrown out because it could lead to the disclosure of state secrets...Link

Call for Fed transparency grows louder......
To conspiracy theorists, the Federal Reserve is a dangerous, shadowy and unaccountable organisation - like the Central Intelligence Agency but without the black helicopters. For more than 200 years, central bank critics have railed about an alleged lack of transparency, a threat to the fabric of the US by un-elected moneymen. For more than 20 years, Ron Paul, the Texan Republican, has been trying to pass a bill that would audit the Fed's monetary policy decisions. Subsidies.....they love em.
WASHINGTON – A much-criticized subsidy for rural air travel would get a budget increase of more than 40 percent under a spending bill unveiled in the House on Monday. The legislation approved by a House Appropriations subcommittee would give $173 million in the upcoming budget year to the Essential Air Service, which provides subsidies to small airlines to fly unprofitable routes.
