Turley 'skeptical' of Pelosi........

Does the Bush administration get a pass for alleged abuses of power? Or will a Congress that's been reticent to investigate finally reverse course? In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Pelosi said she's supportive of contempt citations against several Bush administration officials, indicating that Karl Rove, President Bush's former political adviser, will likely be prosecuted. However, on Thursday night, Constitutional attorney Jonathan Turley took exception to Pelosi, saying he is "skeptical" of her sincerity....Link

Smoke This Recession.........

It is a time of strange bedfellows and bizarre contortions and extraordinary responses to extreme situations, all overslathered with gobs of panic and dread and oh my God, I might have to sell the Range Rover. In other words, it is a time -- like you don't already know -- of plentiful alarmist rhetoric, resulting in weird outbursts of ingenuity and wanton ethics-loosening, all in a desperate effort to suck up some much-needed cash. Democracy Now's Amy Goodman talked to Luce Guillen-Givins who is one of the first people ever to be charged under the 2002 Minnesota version of the federal PATRIOT Act. Guillen-Givins and 7 other members of the group RNC Welcoming Committee — also known as the "RNC 8" — were formally charged with conspiracy to riot in furtherance of terrorism. "I think the significance is that this is one more step in the process of criminalizing dissent," Guillen-Givins. "It's the fact that we do have a right to protest. Any prosecution under a PATRIOT Act or any similar legislation infringes on those rights."....Link

Obama unveils $275b housing plan......

PHOENIX, Arizona – President Barack Obama Wednesday targeted the housing crisis at the root of the US economic meltdown, with a program which could cost 275 billion dollars and reach nine million homeowners. The strategy includes 75 billion dollars designed as an incentive for lenders to reduce interest rates to prevent at-risk mortgage debtors joining the millions who have already fallen victim to foreclosures. The government will also put up an additional 200 billion dollars to bolster confidence in efforts by federal lenders Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to offer affordable mortgages and bring stability to the housing market...Link
