Making Gasoline from the Sun..............

A Louisville, Colorado, company says it has perfected a solar-energy technology capable of producing 100 million gallons of synthetic gasoline annually from corn stalks and wood chips. Sundrop Fuels Inc., which has constructed a 60-foot tower rising above a nearly 3,000-mirror solar array near Highway 7 and Interstate 25 in Broomfield, Colorado, already has proven it can generate synthetic gas using the sun’s heat. Now it wants to raise between $100 million and $150 million to build the world’s first solar-powered biorefinery. That demonstration project could make 7 million to 8 million gallons of gas a year...Link

Obama increases nuclear weapons budget.

"I have embraced the vision of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan through a strategy that reverses the spread of [nuclear] weapons, and seeks a world without them," President Barack Obama claimed during his first State of the Union speech. "To reduce our stockpiles and launchers, while ensuring our deterrent, the United States and Russia are completing negotiations on the farthest-reaching arms control treaty in nearly two decades." Yet, in the budget the Obama White House will send to Congress on Monday, the administration proposes a 10 percent spending increase on the nation's nuclear weapons budget, bringing the total to roughly $7 billion, according to McClatchy Newspapers...Link

Tesla Motors Plans for $100 Million IPO.

Tesla Motors, the electronic car company filed paperwork signaling intent to go public, selling stock in an initial public offering (IPO). While no date has been set, the SEC paperwork filed indicated an offering of $100 Million. Tesla Motors is most famous for making the first high performance electronic sports car. These cars are currently priced around $100,000 and have become a favorite among the silicon valley elites. Years ago silicon tycoons started placing orders before the first cars ever rolled off the assembly lines...Link

Bernanke confirmed...................

After weeks of uncertainty, the Senate on Thursday voted 70 to 30 to confirm Ben Bernanke for a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve. The final vote on his nomination immediately followed a procedural vote of 77-23 to end debate. Bernanke, originally nominated by President Bush in 2006 to succeed Alan Greenspan, was renominated by President Obama in August. The weeks leading up to the Jan. 31 expiration of his first term proved tumultuous for the country’s head banker...Link
